After Care

Some General Advice

It is important to follow the specific instruction for your treatment, however here are some general guidelines to follow.

Medications: If antibiotics are prescribed, continue to take them for the indicated length of time, even if all symptoms and signs of infection are gone. If pain medication is prescribed, take it only as directed and on timely manner. Don't take medication on an empty stomach, or you can get nauseous.

Home care: It is important to resume your normal dental routine as soon as possible (please see specific instructions for your particular procedure). This should include brushing your teeth and tongue and flossing at least once a day. This speeds recovery and helps keep your breath and mouth fresh.

Smoking: If your procedure involved local anesthetic, do not smoke at least 24 hours after your treatment. This can restrict airflow and reduce your body oxygen level.

After Local Anesthetic: If your procedure involved local anesthetic, your lips, teeth and tongue may be numb for several hours after the appointment. Avoid any chewing until the numbness has completely worn off.
